What's wrong with option-L and option-shift-L ? Are they different

on non-US keyboards?
On a US keyboard, Option-\ and Shift-Option-\ produce the "European" quotes
that look like left/right-pointing chevrons. Option-L produces a "logical
not", which looks like a horizontal line with a little downward-pointing bit
at the right end, and is the character used to break a line into two lines
in AppleScript. Shift-Option-L produces a capital letter O with a
left-leaning accent (I forget if that's grave or accute).
