Nothing's wrong with option-L if you're trying to create a continuation
character. (What's shift-option-L meant to do? It just makes an odd
character that looks like a pear - a grave-accented-capital-O - for me. Is
that useful somehow for you?) But they don't create opening and closing
chevrons/guillemets for raw code symbols, which was what was wanted here in
place of << and >>.
