I was referring to the wrapping of my code in the email reader. Some
readers insert line feeds and/or carriage returns when wrapping text.

Your quote back to me omitted this first line (which is the one I was
referring to about the wrapping, BTW); did you include it when you copied
my script?

choose from list (list disks) with prompt "Select a disk:" default items
"Macintosh HD" OK button name "Select" without multiple selections
allowed and empty selection allowed

The entire script compiles and returns a list of aliases on the desktop.

After getting that list, you will have to filter out anything that's not
a folder or file (e.g., disks, desktop printers).
