hello all, I'm wondering if anyone is having problems with OS 9.1 &
OSA Menu 1.2.3d7 and can offer a workaround. I have a script which is
inside the Universal Scripts Folder. It's assigned a keystroke of
Cmd+Option+F
The script works great on my macs with OS 8.6. However, i upgraded
one of them to 9.1 and now the whole scripting systems is out of
whack. Here's what's happening:
1. I'm in the finder. I switch to another app via the application menu.
2. I switch back to the finder by clicking on any portion of the desktop
3. I press the keystroke to activate the script
Here's what happens:
1. The script runs. Does its thing. ask for a few inputs. blah blah blah.
2. After it completes, the script launches AGAIN. as if i typed in
the keystroke a second time.
3. After that, Sherlock launches! because of the Cmd+F contained in
the keystroke.
This is reproducible on my B&W G3 & a Umax J700. I've tried every
sort of Applescript/CarbonLib combination there is. I've restarted
with extensions off/zapped PRAM/rebuild desktop. everything i can
think of. It's not the script because i made a script that contained
only 1 word : beep
and it'll beep twice! and launch sherlock if i assign the keystroke with an F.
This is killing me, with all the time i've spent on this. All signs
point to OSA Menu as the cause. Anyone know of another way to launch
a script via a keystroke? I know QuicKeys does, but i prefer
something free. I wound up saving the script as an applet and
assigning it to one of the F-keys, but it makes the script very
sloooww.
Speaking of slowness, applescript on 9.1 seems very sluggish too. I'm
not sure if that's due to the Applescript/CarbonLib combination i've
been testing, but the speed difference between 9.1 & 8.6 is very
noticeable on my machines.
thanks in advance
