I just used the finder to set the creator type to Graphic Converter's. I use
this snippet as part of an email image processing script.

BTW -- thanks to Paul Berkowitz, who I learned a lot about scripting Outlook
Express from his vast number of examples he has so freely made available.

It is very fast, to me, anyway.

--script snippet, some dialog director code in there

set creator type of every file in folder "Macintosh HD:MyPicts:" whose
name ends with ".jpg" to "GKON"
set MyImages to every file in folder "Macintosh HD:MyPicts:" whose name
ends with ".jpg"
end tell
tell application "GraphicConverter"
dd set contents of item 1 of ProgressDialog to "Converting Graphics..."
dd set max value of item 2 of ProgressDialog to count of MyImages
set ImageCount to 1
repeat with MyImage in MyImages
dd set value of item 2 of ProgressDialog to ImageCount
dd set contents of item 3 of ProgressDialog to name of MyImage
open MyImage
save window 1 as JPEG
close window 1
set ImageCount to ImageCount + 1
