Tex-Edit's Speed Irregularity

I have a script that parses text using Tex-Edit preparing it for import into
an advertising layout program, and noticed very odd behavior:

Sometimes TE is a veritable speed demon, with the text parsing faster than
you can see it on the screen. ZOOM!!!

At other times, it is so slow I think I could do it faster manually. TURTLE
MODE.

This is on the same machine, same script, same fonts open, about the same
amount of text each time, same memory partition (bumped up quite a bit), and
no other variable factors that I can think of to cause this. Have others
seen such irregular behavior scripting TE?

If not, any ideas I can pursue to try and figure this bugger out?
