Finder's scripting considers
creation date
to be read only. Which makes sense, annoying though it may be from time to
time. The file was created at noon last Sunday (or whenever). Changing
the creation date doesn't change that fact, merely hides it. Of course, if
the Mac's clock was in 1904 at the time, not being able to "fix" the
creation dates is unhandy.

It is possible; you need a different tool (which I don't have at hand).

To confuse matters, Mac OS X's Finder (at least in 10.0.4) marks
modification date as read-only as well. And seems to mean it.
