I've researched this issue with little luck, so here goes...
I'm very familiar with Apple's Video Player application that allows certain
S-Video enabled Macs (7500/8500, etc) to display and even capture images as
stills or QuickTime movies. It's a great little app and it's also
AppleScriptable. I'm currently working with a client that's using it to
capture images from his microscope (which has an S-Video output) and then
place the images into a FileMaker DB.
The problem is that this same person wants to replace their aging 7500 with
a newer, shinier Mac (model to be determined). The second he does that, his
nifty solution using Apple's Video Player/AppleScript/FileMaker breaks.
It does NOT mean the end of Apple Video Player.
Apple's Video Player works with Apple's newest Power Mac G4s.
I installed the "Video Startup" extension and Apple Video Player App to
G4/733.
They can capture video images from FireWire.
S-video-FireWire conversion box will be the cheapest solution for you.
Sorry. The machine installed "Video Startup" extension turned to cause
many troubles......
