I am so sick of looking at lines of AppleScript code that have 15 to 20

Isn't that why the gods invented handlers? ;-) When I was a programmer
I delighted in writing nested conditionals that were 300 lines long.
When I became a project leader and had to think of the downstream cost
of maintaining that mess I was ashamed of myself. Whenever indentation
is going to exceed five levels I simply put the inner stuff into a
handler. (It also leads to better logical design.)
