To avoid HUGE headaches just use the version of AS that works,

I'm using, and recommend, version 1.4 with OS 9.1.

I've used this set up for (I believe) most of this year.

NO PROBLEMS!
I distribute tools for the public. I can't tell users which OS/AS version
they have to use. In write recommendations in the "Requirements" section,
but there are just too much limitations. Here the Requirements section for
one tool:
********** begin quote *****************
Mac OS 9.2.2: SUM doesn't run on 9.2.2! I don't know if i will find the time
to adapt it. Depends also on demand. Please write a short message if you are
interessted in using SUM together with 9.2.2.
Mac OS 9.1 - 9.2.1: recommended.
Mac OS 9.0.4 : please read the hint
Mac OS 8.6
Mac OS 8.5: Using Mac OS 8.5.x with SUM is possible, but if you want to up-
or download units with SUM you have to install two files from Mac OS 8.6
(btw, a free update for for Mac OS 8.5 users).
"URL Access Scripting" is in the "Scripting Additions" folder inside the
system folder.
"URL Access" is in the "Extensions" folder inside the system folder.
Akua Sweets 1.4.1 or higher (www.akua.com or download here).
Optional: Text-to-Speech to let SUM speak.
*********** end quote ******************
This is just very annoying - for me and the users. Much too much limitations
and "if's".
We need quality assurance and better bugfixing for AppleScript.
