We have some Apple wireless clients that need to do a DHCP release & renew
when working with our Cisco access points using LEAP encryption. In doing
some research to see if a DHCP release and renew perhaps is possible via
AppleScript, I discovered at the Mac-Mgrs list archive this tip:

"If the version of OT you are using supports the CLIENT ID filed, make a
change to that field and save your changes - this releases and as soon as
you use a TCP/IP based app (or sooner) the Mac renews."
We tried this manually by opening the TCP/IP control panel,
entering/changing the entry in DHCP Client ID and closing the control panel.
It worked...the DHCP released and was renewed. I then looked at the Network
Setup Scripting dictionary and found in the TCP/IP v4 Suite the property
DHCP Client ID.
I'm too new to AppleScript to really understand the dictionary enough to see
if it's possible to enter/change this through AppleScript. If it is, does
anyone have sample lines of code of what it would look like? I was thinking
of generating a random number [set randomN to (random number 100000)] and
have the script enter it there when its run. Any help is most appreciated.
Thank you.
