Yes. It was one thing when AppleScript was taking its first baby steps, but
now that it's a sophisticated language which Apple is supporting so strongly
as a system and inter-application language, it's simply embarrassing - eve
shameful - that it doesn't have such basic commands in it as were provided
pre-OS X by Jon's and a small subset of Akua. It's absurd that we should be
waiting for independent osax-makers to convert these to OS X for free, or
not. Not to have simple key emulation and key-detection commands, for
example, is a real hole for everyday usage of AppleScript. And they simply
don't exist in OS X - Apple's great new system.
That's why I expressed the hope recently, on a different list (AppleScript
Studio), that the AppleScript team might stop what they're doing for a while
to implement the 15-20 most important commands from Jon's and Akua, or the
equivalent. I really think it's the most important thing they could do now.
Has anyone ever seen what sort of things are provided in every MS
application that implements VBA? Square roots, preference files (even on the
Mac!), key pressing, you name it - it's there, built in.
