I'm not pessimistic about AS in OS X in general, i'm just realistic. Any new
software, or the porting of software has likely bugs or lack of features and
it needs time to make things round. So, is time is very important for you,
then you may have a problem. If it doesn't matter if you switch to OS X in
march or 12 months later, you have probably not. :-)
Honestly, i probably don't understand this discussion. I don't believe that
the responsible people at Apple don't know how important AS for OS X is.
First, "normal-users" need AS (they don't know, but many apps and tools rely
full or partially on AS).
Secondly, "Pro-users" which drive a production system or any kind of server
need even more AS! For me it's just impossible to update to new servers with
OS X as long AS doesn't work well and reliable. Much too many tasks are
executed with the help of AS.
OS X is clearly predestined to be a server OS, and as such scripting is very
important to people which want to use it as a server OS. I think Apple is
clever enough to know that.
And yes, their are other scripting languages available, but is anyone
willing to learn those? I've seen pearl code...ugh..go away...
Can other scripting languages control applications? I don't think so...!?
