Just sparring ;-)
Yup. And just look at Apple's financials the last two weeks, and we're about
a month away from shipping MacOS X. Where do you think the money and focus
ought to be going?
It's all a tradeoff. But to be honest, if I had a couple of spare hands here
today, the first thing I'd have them do for this server is the search
engine, not fix this character issue. Because that impacts everyone on every
list, and we really need it. (the second would be to find some way to
improve access to the archives, which is an interface that I really, really
don't like, and which confuses a lot of people. It's not quite right yet,
and it needs to be fixed).
I happen to like it lean. Sometimes, it's a little TOO lean for my tastes,
but I take that as a challenge to do better and be more efficient. I'm not
so lean that I feel I'm creating huge problems -- I'm running lean enough
that I keep busy and have to make tradeoffs. I think that's reasonable, even
if it means there's stuff that has to wait.
