how to get Word 98 to stop spawning Word Work Files

Hello!
Does anyone happen to know how to make Word stop creating all those
"Word Work Files" on my hard drive? I have been running a rather lengthy
script, which always quits due to being "out of space/memory" (even
though
there are very frequent saves to the open document during the script.
I think there's something connected with how many levels of Undo Word
keeps
track of, but unlike other applications, I cannot find where to turn this
thing OFF! I am sure it's need to keep track of everything is what chokes
my script.
Any ideas?
