Scriptable PDF Plugins?

I'm trying to extract plain text from a PDF file, but so far haven't found
any Acrobat plugin that does this AND is scriptable. Gemini 3 ($150) from
www.iceni.com does the trick, but isn't scriptable.

Can anybody lead me to an alternative plugin, or a stand-alone, scriptable
program that'll pull text from either an EPS or a PDF?
