I'm using the "as container" coercion from Eric Grant's "Sigma's Coercions"
package, and occasionally I get a 'can't make alias "disk:folder:etc:file" into
a <<class ctnr>>' In the particular problem I'm facing right now, it does over
a dozen coercions, and then fails. Once it fails, it seems to fail
consistently. (I can open a Script Editor, type "(choose file) as container",
run it, and get the error.)
Usually, the problem clears up with a reboot, but yesterday it didn't. Today it
seemed to clear up, but failed after doing a few hundred successful coercions.
Running the same script again, with the same files and same conditions, and it
succeeded.
Does anyone have any experience with a problem like this, or some
troubleshooting thoughts? All I can think of is not enough memory, as a
too-small partition for a script application can cause weird errors. Or maybe
general corruption and bit rot.
Or maybe Kryptonite is causing the Sigma to lose its coercion power.
I'm using OS 8.6, AppleScript 1.3.7, on a B&W G3. The scripts are compiled with
Script Editor. I've got a bunch of osaxen.
P.S. Thanks, Eric Grant, for an excellent osax. I love the coercion paradigm
and the way it makes my scripts read more clearly, from left to right.
