Error code to text ?

A silly question:

I use OSAScriptError to look up the text message associated with an error
code after calling OSAExecute.

If the error is Scripting related, I get a reasonable message.

But if it's a 'system' related error, the message is screwey:
Disk some object is disconnected

What is the system call I need to make in order to get the text message
associated with a non-scripting error code ?
