Have you got a laptop ? If this is a case, you have a setting in the
"Energy Saving Settings" control panel (that's my translation for
"Economies d'inergie") which reads (in the French version) something by
"Activate processor cycle" (in the advanced settings). If it is checked,
then the comp slows down after some time has elapsed. You must uncheck it
if you want the comp to work while you are not generating any mouse event
(that's just an observation, I suppose MacOS help will be more specific).
