Grumpily but not without good cause, Ed Stockly opined:

I tried to get around this by generating the search file at runtime
which is theoretically possible. I was able to get a rough template
started but was having trouble with deducing the alignment methods
used for multiple volumes. If anyone knows the exact structure of
the file and/or has a TMPL for it I would be most grateful if you
could send me a copy! Too bad a TMPL resource wasn't provided in the
Sherlock file. That would have been nice.

This would be unnecessary if Apple just added a little more scriptability
for Sherlock. I mean really, how useful is the saved search file for
the average user?

And I have never needed to search by content (although it's nice that it's
there I guess) and on day one turned off the find by content indexing. I
like having free disk space and those indexing files can get pretty big.
