I have had the same problem with my 400MHz imac running OS9.0.4 and
applescript 1.4.3. I traced the problem to a conflict with version 3.5.1 of
Logitech's Mouseware, the drivers for its various Mac compatible mice and
trackpads etc.
Version 3.1 works fine and does not cause crashes when recording.
If your problem is similar we might be able to convince Logitech to
investigate.
