Dear Photoshop scripters,
You may be interested to learn that I have been experimenting with
writing a script that takes information from a FMPro database and
writes the data directly into the IPTC fields of a photoshop JPEG
image, using Late Night Software's "Resource IO" and Highwinds
Trading Company's "EnScrypt (40)" OSAXen, the last one to convert
data from binary to Hex format, so it can be written into the
Photoshop file. I am still at the early stages, but if anyone is
interested in me posting some script snippets, I'd be only too
delighted. I am a great believer in letting Applescript do as much as
possible, without relying on Third Party apps.

Have you tried Photo Mechanic? It's not scriptable, but you can batch
process the IPTC fields. Both Mac and Windows.
Also how about setting up an Action in Photoshop and either batch processing
or using a script (do script)?
I don't about the licensing issue, but Photoscripter goes right through this
stuff easily...

Subject: Scripting PhotoShop.. and IPTC text (file info in JPG
pictures)
Hello Everybody..
I have some questions and some information to share with you..
Info and context of my question...
I work for a photo agency in NY... our standard picture format is JPG... I
use
some applescript to automate things like mail and file transfers... some
resizing....... etc... The biggest need is in photo
editing/manipulation
as you might figure out... We have Cumulus based archive... and we fill
in
every darn field in IPTC headers on pix... (for people not familiar with
the
term.. it is like the fields you have access to in photoshop file info...
actually Adobe implements a subset of the IPTC standard)..
- The most fully scriptable image editor I've seen so far is Corel
Photo-Paint... (problem... you can do everything to an image but you loose
text headers... it doesn't even deal with it)
- Graphics Converter ... some scripting and full manipulation of IPTC
text
but the headers are readable on macs only.. and if your audience includes
PC
users they won't see the header text...
- PhotoShop... I can't get the point... why the hell is not scriptable
till now... what are they thinking? and when is it going to be?
- PhotoScripter... Heard about it and read the reviews... but I'm
hesitant
to buy it for the hefty cost of license on an establishment like ours
before I
test it and make sure it works... (they have a licensing plan that grows
> exponentially with your usage of the software... rediculous)... and they
> don't
> have demos....!!! Does anybody know of a downloadable demo of
> PhotoScripter????
>

> I would like to have access to Scriptability for image
manipulation/resampling/basic editing and file headers... Does anyone
have
any advise on this....
Please feel free to contact me directly for any feedback or questions..
cheers..
