Illustrator adds an extra return

Hello,
When I change the font of a few characters of a line, it adds and extra
return at the end. When I step through with show hidden characters on you
see it appear after the following line.
set font of text from character 5 to character 13 of wwwcomText to
eMarketerFont
This must be a bug but if I try t
delete character -1 of text of wwwcomText
it doesn't delete the return but the last character.
any Ideas on how I could get rid of that extra return
