First, in defense of third party Osax like Akua's and Jons and Tanaka's
they did not copy the Finder implementation. Rather before the Finder was
at all scriptable and then before it was usefully scriptable (back in the
days when I complained as loud as anyone does today) these Osax were
developed and in large part got their "market" by filling needs that Apple
didn't fill.
That said, I'm not a big fan of third party Osax, but I use them
reluctantly.

exist in the new location when the script moves on, so the script errors.
OK, the finder does what it does the way it does it. In other words, when
it copies files it does it the same way from the Scripting interface as the
user interface. It doesn't take any longer. If that's not good enough, if
you're in a hurry and don't care about progress bars and don't mind your
machine not doing anything else until the files are done copying, then use
Jon's commands or one of the others.
If your script is moving on before the file is done copying, that's a
different problem that can be solved in your scripting. What command are
you using that your script doesn't wait for a result?

remaining Finder command in the script: those label indices.
I've never had a problem setting labels using the finder and have not had
anywhere near the problems scripting the finder that others have reported.
Then I don't have a lot of third party osax loaded either.

Yes, very lucky indeed!
