work for Finder copys, but for other things it can and does fail.
When copying a large file in the Mac in the user interface you'll notice
that during the copying process the icon becomes a generic icon. That's
where the bzy file type comes from. The finder needs a file type to
display an icon.
AFAIK, no other program uses that file type during the process of copying.
It only works in the finder.
One method that works with some programs (like fetch) is to try to open the
file with write permission. If that errors the file is being written by
another app.

writing yet (even if you've just started), and you run a script to get the
file's type code, it's not "bzy ", it's "MP3 "!!
I'm not sure if the open command errors in this case.
The workaround I find most reliable in the finder is to move items one at a
time. Rather than moving a list of folders or files I repeat through them
one at a time. If you do that the script waits for a result after each
command before continuing. I'm don't know if it adds too much time to the
process, but it is reliable.
