Hahaha.
Why should Scripter be closer on Script Editor than Script Debugger? Seems i
miss the Run and Rec buttons somewhere:
Scripter doesn't compile a script automatically when the user choose to run
or save it, instead giving always an error message. Script Debugger and
Script Editor does.
Scripter has very small intents space, even hard for experienced scripters
to get the structure of the script code easily. Script Debugger is here like
Script Editor (and in Smile it's users choice!).
Scripter does not compile larger lists or &-statements. Script Debugger and
Script Editor do.
But more important as an comparison how close an editor is on Apples Script
Editor is the fact that Main Event is very unresponsive in removing all the
small bad things that bother scripters every day. The 2.5 update (fee) has
covered nothing what was really important for the daily use. Very
disappointing to see an actually really good tool in such a state.
Stephen, if money is no issue, buy Scripter. Use Smile or Script Debugger
for your projects that are larger than 32 KB and Scripter for small projects
or just to debug small snippets.
After two years of using Scripter, i give now Script Debugger a real try.
Mainly but not only because of the 32KB script limit that Scripter has. And
the interface of Script Debugger 2.x is far better than Scripter's. I can
check results of any length, the results are displayed much clearer, window
managment works correctly, pane editing is very useful, drag and drop works
much better (one issue is that you always have to wait a second in Scripter
to drag something), script clips are less propritary than Scripters Script
Base (although plain text files instead of clips would be even better to
maintain), the step-out command is useful if you're accidently stepped into
a handler with a repeat loop of 2000 repeats :), ...
If you don't like switching Editors and you want step debugging, i recommend
Script Debugger because it has no limits in size of the scripts. Someone
will tell you that's no problem because of using script libraries, but if it
comes to debugging a complex script you will see how "well" this "works".
At the end, there is no editor that unites all good things that every of
these programs has.
Greetings
cris :-)
