They probably were either bad buyers or dummies to begin with. I have two
of Tom Trinko's Books:

AppleScript for Dummies
Applied Mac Scripting (half AppleScript half Frontier)

as well as

AppleScript Applications (FaceSpan, a little light on substance)

and Apple's original Language Guide and Finder Guide.

Goodman's book is about as tangible as the arms of the Venus de Milo.
Heard of em, never seen em. It's been unavailable for as long as I've
been aware of it (and may be contributing to boosting it's implied value).

Of the AS books I have read, Trinko's (for Dummies, surprisingly) is the
better although there isn't really a definitive book that really digs into
the meat of the subject. [insert token aplogogy to vegans here]
Maybe I should start shopping for a publisher! 8) $$$
