It could be that I don't understand your question well enough... Should it be
the case, excuse me in advance!
If you are using GC, you can convert a picture (whatever recognized format) in
a set of files bearing appropriate icons, so as to make a tiling of your
original picture.
Just use "Save as...", select type "Apple icons", set appropriate options (and
of course select a destination folder... this could be your script's
CurrentCD).
Normally, telling GC to use "standard" sizes for the icons would avoid any
bordering problem (eg. 32x32 pixels).
But then... you already have all needed material.
There is no need any more to create folders, to set their icon, etc.
Your script should just be concerned with the relative positioning of the files
(with grid setting off, of course).
Now, about getting PICT data to directly set file or folder icons.
It is quite astonishing that AppleScript doesn't provide some kind of PICT to
icon (and icon to PICT) "coercion", considering the rich set of tools provided
by the OS ToolBox.
For instance, I faced another need: to convert an item's icon into a PICT. I
just found a circumvulated way to convert the ICN# resource in a B/W PICT,
using vanilla AppleScript; but I had to forget handling color resources the
same way, because of pixmap data compression and other joys.
Or did somebody get it?
Did I understand your question? :-)
