This is not the case. The location manager explicitly was killed. There is
now no system-wide way to be location aware, except in a very limited
fashion.

X DOES have some very limited ability to cope with network settings, but no
equivalent of the comprehensive, extensible location manager API exists. For
instance, you can no longer choose location at start-up, choose extensions
by location, reconfigure printing, etc etc.
