Yes. The examples in the beginners' tutorials on Apple's website and in the
Mac Help all involve the Finder, which is understandable. In fact they
involve recording in the Finder as a way to start. It's a very good way to
demonstrate visually and simply he very first steps in scripting. But, as a
result, not only do beginners think that everything not directed to some
other application needs to be directed to the Finder, they think that
everything requires 'activate' and getting 'the selection' as well. We've
all seen that here.
