mount volume problem

Has anybody heard when the issue with mounting volumes from non-Apple
servers will be fixed (other than "a future release")? For those not
familiar with the problem, I get a "Network file permission" error (-5000)
under MacOS 9.1 when attempting to mount a volume from a Solaris or Linux
server running netatalk ... this error does not occur under 9.0.4 and I have
seen others mention this error with Win2K servers as well). For reference,
this problem is mentioned in TIL #60835 as occurring in v1.6, but I've had
this problem show up under 1.5.5 as well ...
"Note: AppleScript 1.6 introduces a known issue with using the mount
volume command to mount volumes hosted on certain kinds of servers,
especially computers with Windows 2000. This issue is expected to be
addressed in a future version of AppleScript."
