Try this experiment and decide for yourselves the better solution.
Go to VersionTracker and download the scriptable carbon app 'ShellScriptor' and
the native OS X 'AEShell OSAX' from Vampire Software's Power Additions. Face
these two different approaches to using the BSD layer command line from
AppleScript.

I find that the AEShell OSAX is more than fast enough for my needs, while
ShellScriptor is quite slow.
