It seem to me that the effort needed to convert a standard scripting

I would think that most scripting addition developers would want to move in
this direction in the future. Comments?
I would not want to do this for the scripting additions I've written,
nor would I want it done for many of the ones I use.
For example, scripting additions that provide regular expression
support, data formatting, or just make toolbox/system calls. I want
this functionality as part of AppleScript, so additions are the best
solution.
For things like keychain access and url access, the scriptable
background applications are a great thing. But they are not the best
solution for every case.
As to why there aren't that many scripting additions out there yet,
I'd say because most developers aren't using MacOS X as their primary
OS.
Most of the developers I've talked with see no market for scripting
additions -- most people aren't willing to pay for them. In that
case, you probably won't see them native on X until the developer
that wrote them needs them on X (since they were most likely written
because the developer needed them for a specific purpose).
