Hi all! :,)
For all you AppleScript folk who have been following
what I have been asking the Mailing List, here is my
dillema:
LET ME SUMMARIZE FIRST:
I need, in effect TWO scripts.
ONE to:
* check IF I am currently connected (IF so THEN)
* grab my current IP address;
* send it to my email address.
And the SECOND script to:
* detect that I have reconnected, and have been
given a new IP address
* launch the FIRST script.
I also want to be able to run these scripts in
conjunction with iDo Script Scheduler.
************
OTHER STUFF, which may help solving
my dillema:
I want to be able to access a folder full of Microsoft
Office 2001 files from my PowerPC G3 350Mhz Macintosh
(running Mac OS 9.0.4) connected to the internet via
an internal 56K modem to an Internet Service Provider
using a non-permanent Internet connection (ie.
constantly changing IP address, I'll get to that
later...) located at HOME...
-->>
FROM
-->>
...a network of Compaq PC's running Windows NT
Workstation permanently connected to the internet via
a 512k connection via a Proxy Server located at
COLLEGE.
I have been using NetPresenz 4.1 to use my Mac as a
ftp server to get access to these files, but you can
imagine the hassle when my Internet connection keeps
dropping out, ynow, having it reconnect automatically
and having to find out what the new address is. I
mentioned to you before of when I had to drive home
just to know what the IP address was once.
The fact that these PC's are behind a firewall and/or
proxy server IS relevant, as I can only access my Mac
files remotely via one of the PC's if I allow
NetPresenz 4.1 (running on my Mac) to allow Anonymous
FTP logins; if I try to access secure FTP sites, the
network restrictions won't allow it, via either
Netscape or Internet Explorer. These two browsers, by
the way, are the only methods we have been given to
access the internet via this crummy network.
Hoping for some good ideas and/or solutions.
Thanks to all who have replied thus far with some good
and interesting feedback.
Regards,
Joe Baez
