Path from open document to application

I'm trying to circumvent an app that has no label menu....

I use finder labels to categorize JPEG and GIF files as to Best, OK, Dull, Trash It, etc. I use Jade to view JPEG files. It has a label menu that I can control with a QuicKeys shortcut. So I press a key to label the file according to its quality and then close it. An AppleScript script later on locates the Trash Me files and deletes them.

I want to do the same with movie trailer files and QuickTime Player (Pro). It is scriptable (somewhat) but does not have a label menu.

Can I somehow use AppleScript to get the path from QuickTime Player to its open document, switch to the finder, label it, and return to QuickTime Player?

Thanks,

Dale Saukerson

P.S. This would be cool if it could work with non scriptable apps too. I could then adapt it to other apps and files such as MP3s and sound files.
