What is the new upper limit for file name length?
255 Unicode characters, so you can also do such entertaining things as mix Arabic
and Japanese in the same file name. I should mention that I have no idea how well
this will work with path names.

Considering how stressed some of the Finder people started acting, I'd guess it
was a time thing. Finder 9.1 *is* smart enough to preserve long file names when
it copies things, it just won't show them to you.
