Final Cut Pro scriptable?

Hey all - just joined up and am somewhat new to the applescript scene
although I've been a diehard machead for years (have 7 in my house) and have
done other programming for awhile....

...but I'm actually being approached to help with some production automation
and I'm curious if Final Cut Pro is scriptable? I've not really looked into
the IAC as yet and would appreciate any pointers.

Bascially my thoughts are somewhat simple (and they seem to be supported
natively in FCP) -- getting an EDL list which would then cycle through a
number or vid tapes (this is one of those honking big jukeboxes), encode the
file at the requested ins/outs, digitize and save the file according to date
and log in the time to a database, then proceed on in the cycle until the
edl is finished.

Although new to AS I'm pretty secure in my language abilities, but I'm
missing any kind of understanding how the AS app would get a return that the
last requested file is finished, and where the possible files would be for
logging.

Thanks in advance for your help/comments.
