It's not a matter of confidence, it's a matter of cost/benefit. Why do some
people still use, say, System 7.5? Because it works well for everything they care
about, or they can't afford the upgrade price, or they just don't feel like
dealing with upgrading -- it all boils down to the cost (real or perceived)
outweighing the benefits.
In the case of Mac OS X, most of the stability and performance benefits aren't
apparent unless you're running native applications, so if everything you want to
use is Classic-based, then it's probably not worth the bother. If, on the other
hand, you want to use some spiffy new Mac OS X-native app that just came out, or
you want to dink around with the BSD/UNIX stuff, or you just can't live another
second without the lickable coolness of the dock*, then there really is a benefit
now, so go for it.
