People don't upgrade their machines. [OK, Macs <usefully> last longer than
Windows machines, so the upgraders aren't as insignificant a part of the
Mac population, probably.] Late in 2000, I spoke with someone still using
Netscape 2 something (on a Mac).

Many people have AppleWorks 6...that's at least a start. ;-) And there
are others. But waiting a while is certainly sensible, particularly if the
available machine is anything close to mission critical.
I attended an Apple dog and pony show presentation on Mac OS X Wednesday
evening (March 14). The Seattle "dBUG" group. Presenter John Cambra did
his usual excellent job. He didn't have the shrink-wrapped version on his
Titanium powerbook...he expects to install the shrink-wrap version today
before his SF bay area show (his office is physically very near the
duplicating plant Apple has contracted with).
Look for shows in your area between now and March 24...I was surprised they
started this long before the March 21 media circus (oops...media event).
John, by the way, is moving his mail operation from Entourage to the mail
program that comes with X. (And he hasn't finished retraining himself from
saying "1.0" to "10.0"...sigh.)
My new machine comes in a day or two...the old machine (7300) will remain
the mainline machine here until I'm comfortable with the new machine and
Mac OS X. And I'm on vacation starting tomorrow, so I'll get to play with
the new Mac (dual 533).
