Hi all,
I was wondering if any of you could help me out. I'm developing a cable web
server management tool in FaceSpan and everything is going really well.
However . . .
The tool needs to launch the cable (proprietary) software, test that the
internet connection has been established successfully and then launch the
required server apps (WebSTAR, EIMS, DoorStop, PageSentry, etc . . .) if the
internet connection is up and running.
The problem is I'd like to do at least 3 quick tests to determine that the
internet connection has been established successfully. So far all I can do
is download a web page or ftp file using URL Access Scripting and check its
contents/presence).
I suppose I could try to get a result from a remote machine using "eppc://"
but I'm not sure what the best way to do this is (stay open applet on remote
server, get finder properties, etc), nor have I tested the stability of
program linking over IP with Mac OS 9.1. If anyone has used this
extensively I would appreciate any suggestion you could offer.
Is there a way that I can verify the internet connection by:
- sending test ping another server (PCMP)
- sending an ftp test another server (FTP)
- sending an smtp test another server (SMTP)
- sending a telnet test another server
- sending a tcp stream test a server (TCP)
- sending a pop test another server (POP3)
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
