On 11 May 2001, Paul Berkowitz asked: "Does anyone know whether AS and the installed scripting additions continue to work OK as long as subfolders are removed? Or would there still be a problem?"

I just read TIL 106302 and I am not convinced that you have to remove all the subfolders. As noted in my 8 May post (see below), I only removed the Dialects subfolder and haven't experienced the freeze with any version of CarbonLib up to 1.3.1. It also works with the recently posted 1.4d5c1. Everything should work OK with only the Dialects subfolder removed-I have over 20 osaxen installed

John Baxter pointed out that: "The {Dialects) folder isn't even present if one does a fresh install of Mac OS 9.1, and is no longer used." I upgraded from 8.1->9.0->9.0.4->9.1, without doing a clean install, and the Dialects subfolder migrated. The subsequent update to AS 1.6 didn't remove it; maybe Apple should put a routine in its installers that removes obsolete items to preclude future problems-just a thought.

Re: Freeze using CarbonLib 1.3d11c3 through 1.3.1 and Script Editor 1.6-Apple Bug ID # 2674267.

Just received this from Apple's Developer Support:

"This is a known issue that is currently being investigated. The following comments were made by an engineer that has been investigating your issue:

"We now have a reproducible case and are working on a fix ASAP. A workaround is to remove the Dialects folder from the Scripting Additions folder inside of the System folder."

Cheers
