Apple Events vs. AppleScript

  • Subject: Apple Events vs. AppleScript

Can anyone explain the difference between an Apple Event and an AppleScript?
Is an Apple Event just an occurance, say like opening a file or closing a
file whereas Apple Script is code you use to make Apple Events happen? Or
are Apple Events an actual thing you can program? If so, any pointers to
documentation would be helpful.

Thanks

Steve
