scripting additions folder location?

probably a FAQ, my apologies.
I am running applescript 1.6 under OS 9.1 and all of the documentation I
have been able to DL from Apple, as well as 3rd party additions pkgs (Jons
commands, Akua Sweets) say that the additions folder belongs in the
extensions folder, however if I move it down from the system folder into
the extensions folder Applescript starts barfing out error messages.
Applescript works fine in the System folder, I just dont know if the
additions are working...Im just starting out.
