I just discovered a conflict between Standard Additions 1.7f2 and Smile 1.8.4.
My setup
- Pismo 500
- MacOS 9.1
- Smile 1.8.4
- Applescript 1.6<-->1.7f2
The problem:
With Standard Additions 1.7f2 installed, Smile cannot open any of its own
files. This is true whether the Applescript extension is 1.6 or 1.7f2. The
error message I get in the worksheet window is
"File HardDrive:folder:subfolder:validfilename wasn't found."
If the file doesn't exceed the 32K text limit, I can still open it with
Script Editor 1.7f2, even though Smile can't.
I did not test with the 1.7f2 extension and Standard Additions 1.6. I have
not tested with 9.2.x. I did not test with earlier Smiles. I have not tested
with OSX or Classic.
Even if a file is created and saved by Smile with the 1.7f2 components
installed, Smile cannot re-open the file.
I know Applescript 1.7 for classic is due out very soon. I certainly hope
this bug is squashed quickly, as it would be a deal killer for many of us,
I'm sure.
