I don't know if it would save on time or memory or if it would alleviate the refcon issue that Jon brings up but it would be slightly more elegant to use it than a run script with no point.

<<event ascrgdut>>. (It's short for "get dynamic user terminology.") It will certainly save on time and memory, but I don't think it'll help with Jon's refcon problem.

By the way, someone suggested that maybe they should do this at the start of any applet that uses custom osaxen -- that isn't necessary. When you launch an applet, it opens a new connection to AppleScript, which rebuilds the scripting additions table for you. This trick is only needed if you install new additions in a script and then go on to use them in the same script.
