I seem to remember that Chris Nebel told us of a raw event that would

I don't know if it would save on time or memory or if it would
alleviate the refcon issue that Jon brings up but it would be slightly
more elegant to use it than a run script with no point.
<<event ascrgdut>>. (It's short for "get dynamic user terminology.")
It will certainly save on time and memory, but I don't think it'll help
with Jon's refcon problem.
By the way, someone suggested that maybe they should do this at the
start of any applet that uses custom osaxen -- that isn't necessary.
When you launch an applet, it opens a new connection to AppleScript,
which rebuilds the scripting additions table for you. This trick is
only needed if you install new additions in a script and then go on to
use them in the same script.
