Thanks for the help, but I see the error of my ways now ...

The SetFileDialogFolder scripting addition cannot be used stand-alone, without Default Folder itself properly installed. That's why I was getting a parameter error.

Thanks to Kerry Lanz and Ian Hall who pointed this oversight out to me in private mail -- and thanks to all else who took the time to respond.
