IMO, AppleScripting adds value to what you do. If you are a database
designer/programmer, it behooves you to know a thing or two about
automation. In my niche, multimedia authoring, AppleScripting has only
recently been born and is gradually moving into adolescence. I have
found tons of courses and help for AppleScripters that work with QXP, PS
and FMP. However, not many of us are doing AS for QuickTime, Cleaner
and Media 100. So we've had to feel our way through. If there was a
course or a consultant that knew multimedia authoring AND AS... On the
COW, we've recently introduced a forum for Multi-media AppleScripters in
response to this new field. Check it out:

I can tell you that this is one area of AppleScripting that is virtually
untapped. AS only got serious for QT with version 5. Version 4 had a
somewhat limiting library. That means people have had about a year to
become an "expert" at scripting for QT. Its ground-floor, baby!
You should check out the COW and see what pros in the broadcast and film
markets are doing. Make a presence there and start scripting for people
in the AS, Media 100 and Cleaner COWs. Once they start getting a taste
for what you can do, you can subtly offer your services as a
post-production/multimedia automation consultant. There is no one I
know of that is specializing in this for the masses. And believe me;
there IS a need! You could most likely charge upwards of $200/hr and
have people knocking down your door.
