All,
Between now and mid-January a number of list members will be going out
of town, for the holidays or to MacWorld Expo. When handling your email
for this period, please keep in mind that if your mail client or server
bounces or auto-responds to the AppleScript list mail, it'll either fill
up our in-boxes with pending administrative requests, or cause your
subscription to be automatically cancelled.
Here are three good ways to deal with your list subscription if you
won't be reading your mail for more than a few days:
1) Go to the list admin page and set your subscription to 'nomail'.
This will suspend list mail from the time you do it to the time you undo
it. It's really the best way to go.
2) If your client has an auto-responder, please filter your incoming
mail before the autoresponder kicks in, so list mail does not get
responded to. In Outlook Express you control this by the order in which
your mail rules or filters are processed; it's probably similar in other
clients.
3) Please don't set your mail service (such as mac.com) to auto-respond
to all messages. That will send your response to thousands of list
readers, or to me, or bothonce for every list message or digest that
the list sends.
Thanks for your consideration in this matter.
