I am not sure if a new version of FaceSpan is something to get excited about
at this point. FaceSpan's evolution has not kept up with the Mac OS evolution
very well. It has some significant problems which have never been addressed;
problems which severly limit its usefulness under OS 8.5 through OS 9.x.
Even if an "OS X" version addressing of these issues were released, it would
not alter the fact that the product is nearly unusable under OS 9.

FaceSpan had much more promise than this. Anyone can put a "face" on their
AppleScripts using Dialog Director or 24U Appearance OSAX (and other
additions). FaceSpan allows users to build self-contained applications with
menus, artwork and code resources, document windows etc. This once great
product has been left in the corner to rust for several years; very sad.

I would appreciate feedback from the AppleScript community as to the above.
This is no reflection on you, Shirley, but the support of the FaceSpan
product, and of the community who develop with it, has been too little to
measure. I used to preach the virtues of FaceSpan a few years ago (a quick
search of DejaNews will prove that). However, the lack of product and
developer support has been a great disapointment, and has forced me to reverse
my position. I have several nearly finished FaceSpan projects in which I have
invested a great deal of time, which I can never release because of crashing
and stability issues. I now routinely recommend that my clients and coleagues
avoid using FaceSpan altogether and find other ways of solving their problems.
