Detecting Inactivity, or, Being Idle for X time.

Hi,

I have been asked to create a script that will fire when a machine has been
idle for more than x amount of time.

I figure there is two ways to approach this.

1. Have the script executed by the Finder ( how, I don't know)
2. Have the script running all the time, watching for inactivity.
AOL's AIM does this, but I can't rely on that.

All clues accepted.
